My areas of specialisation include colorectal (bowel) and lung cancer, kidney cancer, melanoma, neuroendocrine (carcinoid) tumours and cancer of unknown primary (CUP). I am the local Principal Investigator in a number of clinical trials, both national and international, looking at new therapies and the role of genetics in the personalised treatment of cancer.
I was appointed in September 2000 as the first Consultant Medical Oncologist in Gloucestershire and what was then the 3 Counties Cancer Network. I qualified from the University of Malta Medical school in 1987 and underwent general medical training in London. I trained in Medical Oncology at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, St Bart’s Hospital and The Royal Marsden Hospital in London. I read a Doctoral Thesis (PhD) on the Clinical Pharmacology of new Antifolate Cancer Drugs at the Institute of Cancer Research, Royal Marsden Hospital and University of London in 1998.
I am a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the European Society of Medical Oncology, as well as specialist UK organisations for the treatment of melanoma, lung cancer and Neuroendocrine tumours. I have several publications in peer-reviewed journals and have received a merit award from the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
