I am a full-time NHS Consultant Gastroenterologist (since 2005). I have wide experience and see patients with a whole range of GI problems. I have special expertise in liver, pancreas and bile duct/gallbladder problems and their endoscopic treatment. I am also the Clinical Director of the Lancashire Bowel Cancer Screening Programme. I have extensive experience and expertise in colonoscopy and the treatment of colonic polyps and early bowel cancers.
I have a broad experience of Gastroenterology and see patients with GI conditions such as reflux, Barrett’s oesophagus, indigestion, ulcers, Helicobacter infection, gallstones, liver disease, constipation, diarrhoea, blood in the faeces, bloating, irritable bowel syndrome, diverticular disease, inflammatory bowel disease and a family history of bowel or other GI cancers.
This work usually involves endoscopy and I have performed several thousand of each of the main types of endoscopy (Gastroscopy, Sigmoidoscopy, Colonoscopy and ERCP – endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography). I have particular expertise in Colonoscopy and Polpyecpectomy and ERCP. Patients often need additional, or alternative tests such as ultrasound scans, CT, MRI, oesophageal pH and manometry (for acid reflux and swallowing problems) and Capsule Endoscopy. I arrange these for my patients.
I have performed more than 3,000 gastroscopies and colonoscopies and more than 2,000 ERCPs since 1998 as a Specialist Trainee and then as a Consultant Gastroenterologist.
I am the Clinical Director of the Lancashire Bowel Cancer Screening Programme.
