Some of the principal treatments carried out by Dr Caroline Barron at Spire include:
I qualified as a physiotherapist in 1981 from the South Tees School of Physiotherapy (now the University of Teesside). My first 6 years post-qualification were spend in Middlesbrough gaining good all round experience in all aspects of physiotherapy. At the end of this period, I had progressed to a senior position, mainly dealing with musculoskeletal conditions.
In 1986, family commitments forced a move to Hull, where I took up my first managerial role, combined with clinical. As well as having a busy out-patient physiotherapy service, I was also managing the day to day in-patient physiotherapy service. This hospital had oncology, urology and gynaecology specialties, so this enabled me to broadened my experience in those specialties as well.
In 1997 The Institute of Rehabilitation was founded and the local NHS Trust decided to fund two research and development posts within the therapy service. I was fortunate to be recruited to one of these, so for the next four years I worked to develop research skills within the therapy service, so that evidence based practice could be adopted. In addition to this, I also undertook a higher degree and by 2004, I was awarded a PhD in Medicine. The subject of my thesis was focussed on patient expectations of physiotherapy and the effect of these expectations on the outcome of treatment.
With this interest in research, I took up a position at York St John College (now the University of York St John), and from 2011 until 2004 I provided the research support for a project looking at joint learning between student physiotherapists and occupational therapists.
When this project finished in 2004, I was again most fortunate to be appointed as the physiotherapy manager at Methley Park Hospital. In 2007 I also took on the role of radiology manager and the rest, as they say, is history.
