Trained in Medicine at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
Specialty training was on the South East Thames Higher Specialist Training Programme in Respiratory and General Medicine, at Guy’s and St Thomas’ and Kings College Hospitals, London. I had a wide and varied experience of all aspects of General and Chest Medicine in a busy inner city environment with a broad ethnic mix of patients and conditions. This included two years of specialist cardiology, and a year of renal medicine. During my research I gained a further 3 years of renal experience in Cambridge at Addenbrooke’s Hospital.
I developed my clinical interests in Lung cancer, mesothelioma, COPD, asthma and tuberculosis during this period, and experience of High-dependency care and non-invasive ventilation. I also participated in the management of a broad range of tropical infections and diseases.
Teach at the Medical School at the University of Southampton. Examiner for the Royal College of Physicians. Direct courses for preparation for postgraduate examinations. I have a keen interest in teaching at all levels from Allied Health Professionals, through students to Postgraduates.
Clinical interests: Diagnosis and treatment of breathlessness, cough and lung diseases Cardiopulmonary exercise testing for fitness and diagnosis of heart and lung disease Lung cancer diagnosis and treatment Tuberculosis and infectious disease management Asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease General Medical Conditions including deep venous thrombosis, stroke, pulmonary embolus, high blood pressure, heart disease and kidney disease.
I am available for urgent consultations most days and for in-patient consultations at any time.

I endeavour to use a logical, thorough, professional and compassionate approach to the diagnosis and treatment of patients. I have experience in Respiratory, Renal medicine and Cardiology and General Medicine and can therefore take an all-round overview of a number of different medical problems. I have a specific interest in complex conditions.
I coach U11 cricket, spend time with my 2 boys, play classical guitar and enjoy exhibitions and museums of history. We recently won the Zooters T20 Challenge at the Rose Bowl and formed the guard of honour at the match vs Kent!
