Some of the principal treatments carried out by Dr Abigail Jackson at Spire include:
I qualified from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School in 1998. I undertook house officer training and A & E jobs in London, before moving to Nottingham for 2 years to complete junior medical training (SHO). My first respiratory registrar training was in Sydney, Australia where I spent one year at Westmead hospital obtaining a very good grounding, particularly in Sleep Medicine, physiology and COPD. I then undertook a year of research at St Vincent’s hospital in Sydney when I obtained my first publication in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine. This was looking at oxidative stress and inflammatory markers in Bronchoalveolar Lavage and exhaled breath condensate in lung transplant patients.
On my return to the UK, I moved back to London for the remainder of my training and performed further research at the Royal Brompton Hospital, working with Dr Nick Hopkinson and Prof Mike Polkey looking at the effects of Vitamin D on Muscle Strength in COPD, and subsequently obtained my MD. I spent 6 months at the Lane Fox Unit in Guys Hospital managing Respiratory Failure and completed my Specialist Registrar training at King’s Hospital in London before obtaining my consultant post at West Herts Hospital.
Since working here, I have been the Lung Cancer MDT Lead for a three year period, and I am now the Trust Smoke Free Lead. We have recently become ‘Smoke’ Free’ over all three hospital sites. I am also a member of the British Thoracic Society Tobacco Specialist Advisory Group.
