Some of the principal treatments carried out by Dr Abdel Hamid at Spire include:
Breast, head and neck, urology
Upper gastrointestinal cancer and gynaecology
After graduation and initial basic training in general medicine, surgery and A&E, I started my specialist training in Egypt at the Oncology department of Cairo University hospitals (Kasr El Eini) and Maadi Armed Forces Hospital, in Cairo, Egypt. I had been in training and supervised work in clinical oncology since October 1985 at the level of registrar (resident). I obtained MSc degree in clinical oncology in 1990. The degree required structured supervised training in clinical oncology as ‘resident and senior resident doctor’. The training was carried out under supervision and assessment of senior academic and clinical teams in various oncology units covering cancers of various systems. In the first year, I gained the knowledge of the basic cancer sciences.
The clinical training continued during the resident/registrar jobs. I had been rotated in the various units of oncology including Unit A: head and neck, gastrointestinal, bone and benign tumours, Unit B: breast, lung, and skin cancers, Unit C: haematology oncology, gynaecological and genitourinary cancer and Unit D: paediatric oncology. The training was supervised and the rotation between different units was subject to continuous evaluation.
In September 1995, I became the Registrar in Clinical Oncology at The Middlesex Hospital, University College London Hospitals Trust. I left this post in 1998 and started a staff grade role in Clinical Oncology at the Princes Royal Hospital, Hull & East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust. In 2002 I stepped into the Associate Specialist role where I stayed until 2013 when I joined as a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford.
