Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mrs Charlotte Bland at Spire include:
I qualified from the University of Northumbria at Newcastle in 2000 with a BSc Honours degree in Physiotherapy and commenced my career as a Rotational Physiotherapist, gaining experience on the wards and in Out Patient settings. I took my first senior position as an in-patient (respiratory) Physiotherapist, and developed and led a cardiac rehabilitation service in 2004. I then started to develop more of an interest in out patients and rehabilitation and have specialised in this area since 2005.
I have always enjoyed treating post-operative patients and leading them through their rehabilitation to achieve their mobility goals. I have a keen interest in soft tissue injuries and techniques, and have completed advanced qualifications in myofascial techniques, sports and remedial massage.
In 2007, I took the lead in a departmental audit on the assessment and treatment of low back and pelvic pain in pregnancy. This was after I saw the same ladies returning to physiotherapy with recurring problems in their second or third pregnancies or being re-referred for pains that failed to settle after pregnancy. I went on some post graduate courses as well as working alongside the midwives and consultants in our local trust to develop up to date evidence based treatment and referral guidelines. I have also delivered training to physiotherapists both in our trust and neighbouring trusts. I have continued to develop my skills in this area and treat ante and post natal pelvic pain, as well as pelvic girdle dysfunction in the general population.
I moved to Leeds at the end of 2008, and have continued to work in the outpatient setting. I studied for a Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Studies at Bradford University in 2010 to further develop my skills in Manual Therapy and Clinical Reasoning.
After the birth of my daughter in 2011, I was lucky enough to be offered a position at Spire Methley Park Hospital, where I work both on the ward with our orthopaedic patients and in the outpatient department, treating a wide variety of musculoskeletal and orthopaedic conditions as part of a highly specialised team of Physiotherapists.
We have a fantastic working relationship with the Consultants and can liaise with them about individual patients’ rehabilitation and requirements, as well as having easy access to X-ray and MRI scan results which helps us enormously in the effective assessment and treatment of our patients.
