View Mr White's profile
I am a high volume hip and knee replacement surgeon. I perform approximately 200 cases per year and in addition approximately 200 arthroscopies (keyhole surgery) per year.
I graduated from University of Bristol. Following early surgical training in Cardiff, Swansea and Plymouth, I trained on the highly regarding Orthopaedic training rotation in Bristol working with some of the leading joint replacement surgeons and academics in the UK. My training focussed on hip and knee replacement surgery including minimal access techniques and revision surgery. I have undertaken a specialist fellowship in Cardiff combined with surgical visitations to units in Europe and the USA.
My NHS practice specialises in the management of trauma and hip and knee arthritis.
I am on the emergency trauma rota at University Hospital of Wales.
I have a special interest in the design of knee replacements for younger patients, and technology to improve the lifespan of hip and knee replacements. I have been using Rapid Recovery techniques and minimally invasive approaches where appropriate for many years with results presented nationally.
I performed the first personalised knee replacement in Wales and remain the only local surgeon performing this regularly.
I perform bone and ligament sparing partial knee replacements when suitable.
I am the chair of the Enhanced Recovery after Surgery group at University Hospital of Wales, which focuses on minimising pain and improving recovery and outcomes after surgery.
I regularly deliver presentations of my research work at British Hip Society, British Association for Surgery of the Knee, British Orthopaedic Association and European Federation of Orthopaedics and Traumatology. I am actively involved in projects with Cardiff University and Arthritis Research UK. I am a member of the Beyond Compliance and ODEP national commitees which monitors and scrutinises results of new and established hip and knee replacements in the UK market.
I have numerous peer-reviewed articles in journals such as The Knee, Hip International, Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. I review articles for Hip International, Bone and Joint Journal, European Journal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology.
I enjoy teaching Medical Students, Theatre staff, Nursing students, physiotherapists and I am responsible for training junior surgeons on the All Wales training rotation and visiting senior fellows from other departments. I lecture and teach other consultants in the UK and Europe regarding knee replacement surgery and Personalised knee replacements.
