Christopher Buckley, Physiotherapy Manager


Christopher qualified from Sheffield Hallam University and has enjoyed a career working within the NHS and private healthcare sector specialising in Musculoskeletal Outpatients. Christopher has worked in elite sport within Championship Rugby league and Aston Villa Football Club. His clinical interest spans Sport injuries and rehabilitation, Acupuncture and biopsychosocial approach to treatment of lower back pain.

 Nicola Whitelock-Wainwright, Deputy Physiotherapy Manager


Nicola qualified from the University of Birmingham School of Physiotherapy in 2002. She has since worked within the NHS, the private sector and sports teams. Nicola specialised within the musculo-skeletal field in 2002 and also gained experience in trauma and orthopaedics. Her clinical interests include knee and shoulder injuries, acupuncture and pilates.

Helen Mason, Specialist Physiotherapist


 Helen qualified from Salford School of Physiotherapy in 1985.

Helen has clinical experience in musculo-skeletal outpatients, orthopaedics and woman's health.

Her clinical interests include post-operative rehabilitation and women's health. Helen is the Women's Health Specialist at Spire Murrayfield.

Katy Hughes, Specialist Physiotherapy


Katy qualified in 1992 from the Royal Liverpool school of Physiotherapy. She began specialising in musculo-skeletal outpatients in 1996, working in the NHS for three years. Katy then gained an advanced certificate in traditional Chinese medicine and worked in private practice for five years. Having joined Spire Wirral in 2005, Katy's clinical interests include acupuncture, post-operative rehab and pilates.

 Nina Slawson



Nina Slawson qualified in 1999 from the University of Northumbria with an award for clinical excellence. Having worked with orthopaedics and elite athletes for the for 10 years she is recognised as a specialist physiotherapist.

Currently Nina is team physiotherapist for British Gymnastics having worked with Olympic medallists and high profile athletes, dancers and stunt performers. Her previous roles include lead physiotherapist for British Boxing, Paralympic basketball and weightlifting. Specialist clinical interests include complex and sporting spinal rehabilitation and calf/ankle injuries. Nina is also qualified in acupuncture and kinesio taping.

Alex Hatton, Hand Specialist and MSK


 Alex qualified in 2000 from Coventry University.

Alex has clinical experience in occupational health, chronic pain, obesity management, trauma and orthopaedics. She has been a specialist in Musculosketal Outpatients since 2003.

Alex currently works as a hand therapist at Spire Murrayfield.

 Alison Keighley, Specialist Physiotherapy: Inpatients


 Alison qualified from Liverpool School of Physiotherapy in 1980.

Alison has clinical experience in Orthopaedics, musculoskeletal out-patients, hand therapy and occupational health.

Her clinical interest is post operative rehabilitation.

 Gary Powell, Physiotherapy Assistant & Cybex Specialst


Gary has worked in the department for 15 years. He has a keen interest in sport and fitness and played professional football for Everton and Wigan Athletic. Most recently he was the first team coach at Chester.

Gary has clinical experience within both departments and is a qualified specialist in soft tissue massage and Isokenetics. He is also the hospitals manual handling co-ordinator.
