Spire Washington Hospital would like to announce the appointment of our new Head of Clinical Services, Shelagh Alderson.
Shelagh qualified as a State Registered Physiotherapist in 1982, and worked in various NHS hospitals in Kent and Yorkshire before spending four years looking after her two children at home.
In 1993 she joined Spire Washington Hospital as a Bank Physiotherapist, progressing to the role of Physiotherapy Manager in 1996. In 2006 following a hospital restructure, Shelagh was promoted to the position of Paramedical Services Manager, with the responsibility for Physiotherapy, Bupa Wellness and Radiology departments. Prior to her current role, Shelagh worked as Theatre Manager which provided invaluable experience in a key area of the hospital. During this time she experienced the significance of pulling teams together to achieve a common goal, and enjoyed learning more about the commercial aspects of the business.
Shelagh is well known to the staff at the hospital, and feels that her previous experience in managing several clinical departments will stand her in good stead for the challenges ahead. She is focused on developing a strong, collaborative clinical team, committed to providing excellent patient care in a safe, secure environment. Shelagh firmly believes that by investing in out staff and encouraging them to take greater responsibility and accountability for patient care, we can continue to grow and develop our services.
Shelagh acknowledges that it is vitally important that we maintain a flexible approach to our work, with the ability to react quickly to the changing needs of our hospital. She looks forward to working with Consultant colleagues in developing new areas of business.
Outside of work Shelagh enjoys cooking, shopping and socialising with friends.
