Weight-loss surgery at Spire Washington Hospital
Introduction
Spire Washington Hospital offers a comprehensive weight-loss surgery service from a multi-disciplinary team, led by Mr Peter Small, consultant general surgeon, who currently undertakes gastric banding operations. We hope to introduce gastric bypass in the very near future.
Weight-loss surgery is NICE approved for patients with a BMI of 40 and over, or those with a BMI of between 35 and 40 with other co-morbidities (eg diabetes, hypertension) who have previously failed with non-surgical weight control measures.
All interventions are supported by a physician, nurse counsellor and dietician/nutritionist in both assessing patient suitability and providing comprehensive follow-up. We also put patients in touch with a bariatric surgery support group so they can meet people who’ve been through a similar weight-loss journey.
Cost
Initial consultation is approximately £150 to discuss all surgical and medical options with Mr Small. The gastric banding procedure costs £7,250, which includes both pre-operative and post-operative dietician consultations, plus 2 follow up consultations and band adjustments performed by Mr Small. Any further dietician appointments after the pre and post-operative would be approximately £60. After the initial two band refills the approximate charge would be £150 with Mr Small.
