Dr Alfakih qualified in 1993 from St. Bartholomew’s Medical College, London. He undertook his Cardiology training in Leeds and Nottingham Cardiac Centres, specialising in Non-invasive Diagnostic Cardiac Imaging. He is BSE accredited in Transthoracic and Transoesophageal Echocardiography as well as level III accredited for cardiac CT by SCCT. His research was funded by a British Heart Foundation fellowship and was undertaken at the Institute of Genetics and the BHF Cardiac MRI unit in Leeds.
He was appointed as Consultant Cardiologist to Lewisham University and King’s College Hospitals in 2008. He is a general cardiologist and his sub-specialty is Cardiac Imaging. He continues to be active in research and, to-date, has published over 40 peer review articles. He is the Lead for Clinical governance, Audit and Research in Cardiology in the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust.
