Spire Tunbridge Wells Hospital is proud to be celebrating its 20th anniversary. Opened in 1991 as the Independent Hospital General Manager Victor Benson and Matron Wendy Mendham welcomed patients to the new facility.
Linda Alton, Admissions Officer remembers the day the Hospital first opened. ‘I worked in the kitchen then and all staff had a week long induction. There weren’t any patients for the first week as we spent time preparing and training for the 1st August when the patients started to arrive.’
The hospital had over 10 years with a number of providers before being bought by Bupa in 2000. Bupa brought with it new changes in systems and ways of working and uniform!
In 2008 Spire Healthcare acquired the Bupa chain and has since built on the work from previous owners. We have a large number of staff celebrating milestones in their service to the Hospital with five people still being important members of the team having joined in the first year of opening. With so many long serving staff, the current team have notched up over 1 million hours of service since the hospital opened.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff, consultants and patients that have supported Spire Tunbridge Wells Hospital over the last two decades as we look forward to the next 20 years!
