In September 2012, Spire Sussex Hospital received an unannounced routine visit from the independent regulatory body the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
The CQC checks that healthcare providers across the UK are complying with government standards of quality and safety. The recent inspection focused on five key areas:
- Standards of treating people with respect and involving them in their care
- Standards of providing card, treatment and support that meets peoples needs
- Standards of caring for people safely and protecting them from harm
- Standards of staffing
- Standards of quality and suitability of management
The inspectors were satisfied that Spire Sussex met the required standard of performance in all five areas.
Part of the visit involved the inspectors interviewing a number of patients, both in outpatients and on the ward.
