Our physiotherapy team

Our physiotherapy department has a team of highly skilled physiotherapists. We offer tailor-made treatment plans to suit your needs. Whether you are an aspiring or elite athlete, recovering from surgery or suffering from an injury, our physiotherapists aim to get you to your desired level of fitness. All our physiotherapists are chartered and registered with the Health Professions Council. They all have specialist experience across a wide variety of clinical problems.

Spire St Anthony's Hospital has a very successful rehabilitation programme in place for orthopaedic surgery and our physiotherapists are able to regularly liaise with our team of surgeons during your recovery period.

What happens during my appointment?

Your first appointment will be up to 45 minutes depending on your problem, allowing the physiotherapist to assess, diagnose and treat your injury.

Treatment may consist of acupuncture, advice, aquatic therapy, exercise therapy or manual therapy.

The department has private treatment rooms, a rehabilitation gym and hydrotherapy pool, which may be utilised, depending on your needs. It is advisable to wear clothing suitable for exercising in and you will probably be asked to undress for your examination depending on the location of your injury.

The physiotherapists at Spire St Anthony's Hospital are all experienced senior staff, both male and female and are recognised by all insurance companies. We work closely with the orthopaedic consultants at the hospital and can arrange referral to the appropriate specialist where necessary.

Other treatments we offer

Pilates

We are currently offering one hour long beginners level physiotherapy led pilates classes at Spire St Anthony’s Hospital.

What is modified Pilates?

Modified pilates is a system of exercises designed to help improve your:

  • balance
  • body awareness
  • co-ordination
  • flexibility
  • posture
  • strength

Classes

The class is in a group setting, with a maximum of eight participants in the class. This size means you can benefit from individual feedback and hands on correction where needed.

The class consists of a 10 minute warm up (often in standing), then 40-45 minutes of mat-based pilates exercises, with a 5-10 minutes cool down and stretch at the end.

The main body of the class takes place lying and kneeling on the mat. The exercises target all your different muscle groups in a systematic way. They also help you increase the flexibility of your spine. This means you will develop a more balanced body, move more efficiently and feel better. It can be particularly effective for back, neck and shoulder pain, but everybody will benefit from better movement.

Over time the exercises can be progressed as required, so you can really see that you are progressing and getting stronger.

All our pilates instructors are physiotherapists who have undertaken training with the APPI (Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute).
