Additionally, he undertook a period of research both at St George’s and St Mark’s Hospitals, London investigating the chemoprevention of colorectal cancer; this work was subsequently awarded a MD thesis. Mr West was appointed as a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon with an interest in minimally invasive surgery at Epsom & St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust in November 2011 and undertakes a variety of general, colorectal and laparoscopic procedures, both in elective and emergency situations at the trust. He also has a keen interest in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy and regularly teaches on laproscopic and endoscopic courses.
In March 2016 Mr West performed the first Rafaelo procedure in the UK.
