Mr Dae Kim is based at the St George’s Teaching Hospital London, and works closely with the Royal Marsden Hospital oncologists within the Regional Head & Neck Team. He is dual-qualified, in Medicine from Edinburgh University (1995) and in Dentistry from Birmingham University (2001). He subsequently trained at Edinburgh and Cambridge teaching hospitals. He completed a specialist ENT surgery training program in the West Midlands and an Advanced Fellowship in Head & Neck Oncology at the Toronto General Hospital and the Mount Sinai Hospital, under the tutelage of the world's most renowned surgeons and oncologists.
Mr Kim has a wide experience in treating all aspects of adult and paediatric ear, nose and throat disorders, and is happy to see and manage patients with the full range of ENT problems including ear & hearing problems, nasal and sinus problems and complex head & neck problems.
After an Advanced Head & Neck and Endocrine Surgery Fellowship in Toronto University Hospitals, he gained additional training to perform minimally-invasive 'key-hole' thyroid and parathyroid surgery under the pioneers; Professor David Terris (USA) and Professor Paulo Miccoli (Italy). More recently, Mr Kim has also completed a dedicated 'Robotic and Endoscopic Thyroid Surgery Fellowship' at the prestigious Severance Robotic Institute (Seoul). There he was mentored by the world famous Professor Chung who has pioneered the transaxillary "scarless" robotic and endoscopic thyroidectomy.
Mr Kim has a strong commitment to research and presently supervises PhD & MSc research fellows. He was research fellow at the Harvard Medical School and completed a PhD examining the molecular basis of thyroid and head & neck cancers, for which he was awarded the prestigious 'Syme Medal' by the Royal College of Surgeons. He has been awarded multiple research grants and numerous national and international prizes. Currently, he works in a research group at the Institute of Cancer Research in London exploring the use of novel immunotherapy in treating advanced thyroid and head & neck cancers. He has authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications, and several specialist surgical book chapters including the world famous textbook 'The Surgery of the Thyroid and Parathyroid Glands', edited by Professor Greg Randolph of Harvard University.
