I have worked for over 30 years within the NHS and one of my visions was to develop an integrated musculoskeletal service. I achieved this with the opening of the Hotung Centre at St George's Hospital in 2002. This is now an internationally acknowledged centre of clinical excellence.

I practice holistic care for paediatric and adult patients with musculoskeletal disorders. In particular I have special interests in juvenile idiopathic arthritis, adult inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus, bone disorders such as osteoporosis and degenerative disorders such as osteoarthritis.

I treat children and young people from 3 to 18 years old.

I am the founding director of the London Rheumatology Clinic, whose aim is the provision of holistic individualised clinical care in a co-ordinated and integrated manner.

I am the Director of the London Rheumatology Clinic. This is a holistic rheumatology service comprising eight clinicians who are all focused upon care excellence.

I am the Emeritus Professor of Clinical Rheumatology at St George's University of London.

Emeritus Professor of Clinical Rheumatology, St George's NHS Trust

Professor Axford continues to enjoy lecturing to other clinicians, travelling the globe with his wife, and actively being part of a family that continues to grow and become more demanding each month.

In addition, Professor Axford is persevering with golf and his desire to reach the 19th hole in as short a period of time as possible.
