I am a Professor and Consultant in Allergy and Clinical Immunology. I am head of the Allergy, Asthma and Clinical Immunology department at University Hospital Southampton. This department is recognised internationally as a “Centre of Excellence” by the World Allergy Organisation. I am also the Director of the Internationally renowned Asthma and Allergy Research Centre on the Isle of Wight. I have coauthored American and European guidelines for allergy, as well as several books and book chapters and published around 200 articles in scientific journals.
I specialise in asthma, allergy and clinical immunology with specific interests in asthma and food allergy. I am an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of allergy related conditions such as asthma, rhinitis (hay fever), eczema (dermatitis), urticaria (hives) and angioedema, and allergy to foods, drugs and insects. I provide allergy diagnostics including allergy skin tests and challenges, and allergy specific treatments such as desensitisation for allergies.
I have been practicing allergy and respiratory medicine since 1988. I have performed thousands of diagnostics and treatment procedures. I have also trained a large number of trainee registrars and research fellows who have since been appointed consultants and professors in various institutions in the UK and abroad.
I am the lead clinician for Asthma, Allergy and Clinical Immunology at University Hospital Southampton and am Director of the David Hide Asthma and Allergy Research Centre, Isle of Wight.
I am Chair of the Adult Allergy Group, and a council member of the British Society of Allergy & Clinical Immunology.
I am an External Examiner for MSC Allergy, Imperial College, London, I am module lead for the Food Allergy module, MSc Allergy, University of Southampton. I am research area lead for allergy research within NIHE Biomedical Research Centre, University Hospital Southampton.
I am a trustee for the Asthma, Allergy, Inflammation Research Trust (a registered charity), associated with University of Southampton.

I am married with two children. My wife Zaheda is an arts teacher, my daughter Zobia is a young trainee doctor and my son Telha has just qualified as a Lawyer. My interests include biking, running, playing Table Tennis and reading a good book.
