Originally from the local area, Thom Daniels studied medicine at Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School (part of Imperial College), qualifying in 1998... He went on to train in London and the South West, before coming to Southampton for the first time in 2003... He undertook his research Doctorate at the University of Southampton between 2005 and 2007, studying complex polymicrobial lung infections.

In 2008 he undertook a Fellowship at The Prince Charles Hospital, Brisbane Australia... He returned to take up a consultant post at Southampton in 2009.
