Specialises in

I am a highly respected clinician with extensive experience in all aspects of obstetrics and gynaecology including colposcopy, urogynaecology, laparoscopic surgery, medical disorders in pregnancy (I am a recognised expert on thyroid disease in pregnancy) and high risk obstetrics. I held the position of a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Al Ahli Hospital, Doha, Qatar from March 2019 to June 2023. Prior to that I held a senior consultant post at Sidra Medicine, Doha from May 2017. I was also affiliated with Weill Cornell University Medical College, Doha as an professor in O&G and undertook clinical work at the Hamad Women Well Research Centre (WWRC).

Prior to working in Qatar I was a consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology for 12 years and the Clinical Director of Obstetrics and Gynaecology for eight years at the James Paget University Hospital (JPUH). During my time as the Clinical Director I managed all staff and services within the department and made major contributions towards improving service delivery. I have excellent surgical outcome data with very low complication rates.

I am proficient in performing Uro-gynaecological complex surgery for prolapse/urinary incontinence and had introduced new surgical treatments for these conditions. I have developed services for laparoscopic gynaecological surgery and routinely perform laparoscopic hysterotomy. I undertake treatment of complex ovarian lesions and endometriosis and have routinely performed hysterectomies in complex cases. I have held lead a colposcopy role and undertook two to three colposcopy clinics per week and continue to perform colposcopy and LLETZ in my clinical practice. I am also trained in the use of laser for the treatment of precancerous vulval lesions. I have routinely performed endometrial ablation procedure for suitable cases of dysfunctional uterine bleeding with good outcome.

Over the years I have performed hundreds of abdominal / vaginal / laparoscopic hysterectomies with excellent outcome. Similarly I have performed numerous vaginal repair, operative and diagnostic laparoscopic, midurethral sling surgical, hysteroscopy, endometrial ablation, abdominal myomectomy, laparotomy procedures with minimal complication rate.

I trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Jessop Hospital for Women, Sheffield and the General Infirmary Leeds.

I have always strived to advance my clinical practice through research. I have published several papers in international gynaecological journals and presented at national and international conferences. My main areas of research included development of new surgical treatments for stress urinary incontinence and prolapse as well as improving maternal / fetal outcomes in high risk pregnancies. I have also been a reviewer for various medical journals.

I have been trained in medico-legal report writing and giving evidence in court as an expert witness in obstetrics and gynaecology. I have successfully acted for both defendants and claimants in clinical litigation cases. I have used my medico-legal skills to introduce major changes in the hospital patient consent process to reduce litigation in the specialty of obstetrics and gynecology.
