I am privileged to have over 21 years Consultant gynaecological experience including advanced laparoscopic (minimal access surgery). I established and am Director of one of the first seven nationally accredited centers for the advanced laparoscopic treatment of endometriosis with emphasis on excisional therapy and receive referrals from across the UK and on occasion overseas. I concentrate on personalisation and individualisation of patient care be that medical or surgical. I am one of a few consultants recognised and accredited by the RCOG as an advanced laparoscopic surgeon and also train advanced laparoscopic surgeons.

I specialise in benign gynaecology with specific emphasis on advanced laparoscopic surgery including excisional therapy for endometriosis, hysterectomy, myomectomy and also advanced hysteroscopic surgery. I also have over 21 years Consultant experience in uterovaginal prolapse, colposcopy/abnormal cervical smears, heavy/irregular periods and menopausal problems.

As a consultant for over 20 years both in the NHS and privately I have seen many thousands of women and performed many thousands of outpatient and in patient operative procedures. Advanced endometriosis and minimal access (laparoscopic) surgery is acknowledged to be amongst the most complex of all gynaecological surgeries with expected complication rates between 3.4% and 20% of cases. Sadly in such complex surgery complications will and do occur although I am fortunate to say that my complications are lower than expected which I believe reflects extensive discussion with my patient and careful joint planning with my patients and working in a multidisciplinary way as and when needed.

In addition to my NHS Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist position since 1996 I am currently Associate Medical Director for Strategy and Partnership for Wirral University Teaching Hospital, I was Medical Director of the Hospital for 2.5 years before standing down to allow more time for clinical work. I am an honorary Lecturer at the University of Liverpool. I am also a Clinical Lead for NHS England NW Coast Strategic Clinical Network.

I have been invited to speak at national and international meetings on gynaecological minimal access surgery. In our unit 99% of hysterectomies are now performed by the minimal access or vaginal route compared to 40% nationally. I am also honoured to be mentioned on the US website Nancy's Nook.

Previously I was Chair of the NHS NW Darzi review for Maternity and Newborn and am currently the Clinical Lead for Maternity for the NW Coast NHS Strategic Clinical Network recognising both my clinical and managerial experience. I am also Chair of the NHS NW Clinical Leaders Network which is a multidisciplinary group of current and aspiring NHS clinical leaders.

I am an advisor for BBraun surgical and am Chair of Advanced Laparoscopic Course run by the Aescalup Acadamie.

I have multiple invited talks, presentations and poster presentations relating to laparoscopic surgery at national and international meetings as far a field as the Australian Gyanecological Endoscopists Meeting in Perth and several of our presentations have won best presentation including at the Royal college of Obstetricians and Gyanecologists World Congress. I was born and went to school in Liverpool and despite migrating south during my training including time as a Lecturer at the University of Bristol it is great to have found my Consultant post here on the Wirral.
