As a full-time NHS Consultant Rheumatologist since 1999, Dr McRorie has extensive experience in the diagnosis, assessment and management of rheumatic disorders.  He is interested in the early diagnosis and treatment of arthritis as well as pain management of chronic arthritis. Dr McRorie is enthusiastic in involving patients in decision making regarding their treatment by providing appropriate clinical information and advice on self-management as part of holistic patient centred care.

Research interests:

Dr McRorie’s research interests include the use of biologic therapies in the treatment of inflammatory arthritis, and the management of scleroderma. His research has been presented at national and international scientific and clinical meetings.

Professional profile:

Dr McRorie graduated in Medicine from the University of Glasgow in 1986, and undertook postgraduate training in both Rheumatology and General Internal Medicine across central Scotland. In 1997, he was a visiting fellow at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, USA. He has been a full-time Consultant Rheumatologist since 1999, and has extensive experience in Clinical Rheumatology. He currently sits on the Council, and Clinical Affairs Committee, of the British Society for Rheumatology as the Scottish representative. He is a clinical member of the Cross Party Parliamentary Group for Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Conditions at the Scottish Parliament. He formerly sat on the Board of the MRCP (UK) examination (Part II), and the Council of the Scottish Society for Rheumatology. Dr McRorie has been the Training Programme Director for Rheumatology for South-East Scotland 2000-2012. His medico-legal practice includes work for legal firms across the UK, as well as the Central Legal Office of NHS Scotland.

Personal profile:

Dr McRorie is married with two grown up daughters. As a native of Ayrshire, he has been settled in Edinburgh since 1992. His leisure interests include golf, vinyl records, live music and theatre. He has published in Private Eye.
