Dr McRorie graduated in Medicine from the University of Glasgow in 1986, and undertook postgraduate training in both Rheumatology and General Internal Medicine across central Scotland. In 1997, he was a visiting fellow at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, USA. He has been a full-time Consultant Rheumatologist since 1999, and has extensive experience in Clinical Rheumatology. He currently sits on the Council, and Clinical Affairs Committee, of the British Society for Rheumatology as the Scottish representative. He is a clinical member of the Cross Party Parliamentary Group for Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Conditions at the Scottish Parliament. He formerly sat on the Board of the MRCP (UK) examination (Part II), and the Council of the Scottish Society for Rheumatology. Dr McRorie has been the Training Programme Director for Rheumatology for South-East Scotland 2000-2012. His medico-legal practice includes work for legal firms across the UK, as well as the Central Legal Office of NHS Scotland.
