I am an Adult and Paediatric ENT/ Head Neck and Thyroid Surgeon working at Manchester Royal Infirmary, Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and Salford Royal Hospital as a consultant since 2005. I see and treat most aspects of ENT in adults and children but specialise in the diagnosis and management of head and neck and thyroid disorders.

I have a particular interest and expertise in managing thyroid nodules and tumours as well as an interest in throat and voice disorders including globus (abnormal sensation in the throat). I perform tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, grommets, thyroidectomy, parathyroidectomy, parotid and submandibular salivary gland surgery, laryngeal surgery, neck dissection as well as internal nasal surgery such as septoplasty and sinus surgery.

I undertook registrar training in the West of Scotland and completed my FRCS examination in 2004 gaining the gold medal which is awarded to the best candidate in the UK. I then undertook sub-specialty training in the Northern region in head and neck oncology. I began working as a consultant in 2005 and I am currently lead thyroid surgeon for adult and paediatric thyroid surgery at Manchester Foundation trust. I am regional lead for paediatric head and neck and thyroid cancer as well as for medullary thyroid cancer.

I am the chair of the Clinical Standards Group for all of Surgery at Manchester Foundation trust a role which ensures quality of standards in all surgical specialties at the largest trust in the UK. I also have a national role on the Special Advisory Committee for ENT overseeing the training of all ENT trainee doctors in the UK. Prior to this role I was until August 2019 the Training Programme Director for ENT supervising ENT training in the North West including Greater Manchester and Liverpool. I also sit on the Executive Committee for the Asia Pacific Thyroid Society – one of only four UK members.
