I qualified from Manchester University in 1982. I trained in neurology in Leeds and London. I was Senior Registrar in Neurology at Charing Cross Hospital, London, and Visiting Professor in Neurology at University of Rochester, New York, USA for 12 months.

I am interested in the whole range of neurological conditions, including headache, epilepsy, stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease and rarer conditions. I have special interests in disorders of nerve, muscle and brain, and international recognition in disorders of muscle, nerve, motor neuron disease (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), and neurogenetics.

I was appointed Consultant Neurologist at the Royal Free Hospital, National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (UCLH), and QE2 Hospital Welwyn Garden City, in 1998. In my NHS practice I provide a muscle and nerve biopsy service, and perform nerve conduction studies and EMG. I offer steroid injection for carpal tunnel syndrome, and botulinum toxin injection for movement disorders (with advance notice).

I am a Senior Lecturer in Clinical Neuroscience at UCL Institute of Neurology, University College London. I am active in neurology research, publication and teaching.

At the Spire Harpenden Hospital, I provide a consultation and diagnostic service for patients with all neurological problems. These include headache, migraine, epilepsy, dizziness, stroke, brain tumours, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, movement disorders, memory problems, Alzheimer’s disease, nerve and muscle disorders (myopathy, muscular dystrophy, myositis, neuropathy, myasthenia, motor neuron disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), and rarer conditions, with further investigation and management to suit the patient and their condition.
