Our sperm bank catalogue

At Spire Fertility we actively recruit our own sperm donors and we buy donor sperm from recognised and licensed donor banks too. All sperm donors have to be in good health and are screened for sexually transmitted diseases and some genetic disorders.

You can choose donor sperm from our sperm bank based on a number of donor characteristics

Sperm from our bank may be used for donor insemination (DI or DI-IUI) where the sperm is placed into the uterus at the time when the woman ovulates. Donor sperm can also be used for in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) treatments, where the woman undergoes an egg collection and her eggs are inseminated or injected with donor sperm.

Prospective parents can choose the appropriate physical characteristics from our catalogue of sperm bank donors so that skin colour, height, eye and hair colour can be matched. Ethnicity or racial origin will also be matched.

All our sperm donors are fully screened

All donors undergo a donor physical and implications counselling session. They are screened for the following:

  • Full Blood Count and Blood Group & Antibody Screen
  • HIV, HTLV-1, Hep B and Hep C
  • CMV
  • Syphilis, Gonorrhoea and Chlamydia
  • Trichomonas and Semen culture & sensitivity.

After 180 days of  quarantine, donors are rescreened for Full Blood Count, Blood Group & Antibody Screen, HIV, HTLV-1, Hep B and Hep C, CMV, Syphilis, Gonorrhoea and Chlamydia and the samples released subject to negative screening results.
