Dr Julian Winter

Consultant Cardiologist

MBChB, MD, MRCP(UK)

"The Spire Elland Hospital enables me, as a Cardiologist, to give my patient's an individualised plan which places them at the centre of their care."

Specialises in

  • Angina including angioplasty
  • Atrial fibrillation
  • Hypertension

I have been a Consultant Cardiologist for 15 years specialising in coronary angioplasty and stenting and also have a wealth of experience in general cardiology which includes all heart related conditions. In 2011, I helped to establish the local coronary angioplasty (PCI) service for Calderdale and Huddersfield.

I specialise in all aspects of cardiology, sometimes termed general cardiology which relates to any symptom or sign caused by the heart. I have a specific interest in coronary angioplasty and stenting, often called PCI, which treats symptoms of angina and heart attacks. I regularly perform coronary angiography procedures to help in the diagnosis and treatment of many heart conditions. I also perform cardioversions which treat certain types of abnormal heart rhythm.

I am a high volume operator who regularly performs more than 300 coronary procedures a year (coronary angiography and PCI) at Calderdale Royal Hospital and The Nuffield Hospital in Leeds over a 15 year period.

In addition to my clinical role as a Consultant Cardiologist, I was proud to be the elected clinical lead for PCI and Clinical Governance at Calderdale Royal Hospital between 2018-2023. This crucial role monitors coronary procedural activity and safety and guides the development and implementation of changes to practice to improve patient care and the patient experience within the service.

Since becoming a Consultant, I have continued to volunteer any additional time at work to act as an Educational Supervisor which facilitates and supports the training and education of our future doctors.
