I am a European board certified surgeon. Extensively and internationally fellowship trained, I have studied medicine at the University of Bristol and qualified as a Medical Doctor at the University of Leiden in 1996. I then spent a year as a Research Fellow at Stanford University, California. I completed a sabbatical academic year as an Associate Professor at the UMCU, Utrecht, in 2016-2017 and continue my global teaching and research.

During my orthopaedic training in the Netherlands, I developed a keen interest in hand and wrist surgery and combined my clinical work with academic research on the treatment of arthritic disorders of the wrist. After qualifying as an Orthopaedic Surgeon I worked in four different international centres of excellence in hand surgery in Barcelona, Paris, Derby, and Wrightington.

I have published various papers and was invited to present and lecture in different centres throughout Europe, part of my work receiving the annual Dutch register prize. My academic research resulted in a PhD on rheumatoid wrist surgery at the University of Leiden.

Through my academic research and extensive postgraduate fellowship training, I have developed a comprehensive understanding of acute and chronic conditions affecting the hand and wrist and their diagnosis and treatment. I continue to research in the field and maintain links internationally.
