I have been a consultant colorectal and general surgeon for five years. I trained on the Manchester Higher Surgical Training Programme and completed an Ethicon sponsored Fellowship in Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. I have wide experience in coloproctology and my practice includes surgery for both benign and malignant diseases. I have a particular interest in enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) and laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery, which in combination confers a reduced inpatient stay after surgery. I have also developed a practice in the management of early rectal cancer and polyps. I perform trans anal minimally invasive surgery (TAMIS) for such cases.

I specialise in colorectal and general surgery, including colonic and rectal surgery for colorectal cancer, and benign conditions such as diverticular disease and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD; ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease).

In addition, I undertake proctology for the management of conditions including haemorrhoids, anal fissure and anal fistula. I perform a variety of procedures for the management of haemorrhoids including rubber band ligation (RBL), haemorrhoidal artery ligation operation (HALO)/trans-anal haemorrhoidal dearterialisation (THD), stapled haemorrhoidectomy and open haemorrhoidectomy.

I am also an endoscopy trainer.

I perform over 60 major colorectal procedures every year in both the elective and emergency setting. I am an experienced endoscopist (gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy) undertaking over 500 colonoscopy procedures per annum in both my NHS and private practice.

In addition to my clinical work I am actively involved in surgical training. I am a member of the Health Education North West Specialty Training Committee for higher surgical trainees. In 2016 I received an excellence in training award from Health Education North West.
