I am an established shoulder and elbow consultant surgeon at the world renown Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore, a national centre of excellence. I specialise only in shoulder and elbow conditions and am an expert in the management of all acute and chronic shoulder and elbow conditions, including complex revision and reconstructive surgery.

My practice encompasses all aspects of open and arthroscopic, keyhole, surgery. I work closely with therapists to ensure the best outcomes for my patients. I strongly believe in open and transparent clinical practice and spend time with my patients to ensure information is delivered in an understandable and useful manner, to allow patients to decide on their care.

I routinely perform procedures for frozen shoulder, cuff tears, impingement, instability (dislocations) and sports injuries. I also provide shoulder replacements for arthritis. I offer treatment for elbow conditions including arthritis (including elbow replacements), tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, stiffness, instability as well as other pathologies. I routinely undertake complex revision shoulder and elbow procedures in my NHS practice as part of a team, receiving both regional and national referrals.

I am dedicated to providing the most up to date evidence based medical practice.

During my training as an orthopaedic surgeon, I dedicated time to undertake postgraduate research at Imperial College London, supervised by Professor Roger Emery and Professor Anthony Bull, achieving a Medical Doctorate, MD, based on my internationally recognised work into proximal humeral fractures. I am undertaking numerous clinical studies at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and hold a post on the Research Committee for the British Elbow and Shoulder Society. I have acted in an education and advisory role to the international groups AO and EFORT/SECEC. Clinical outcome is a key aspect of my practice and I am an advocate of using PROMS (patient reported outcome measures) data to support clinical practice.

Q & A

How is a rotator cuff injury treated?

Mr Addie Majed, Consultant Orthopaedic Shoulder & Elbow Surgeon, says if you are suffering from a rotator cuff injury, you may be offered an operation once non-surgical options fail.

Rotator cuff surgery involves reattaching the tendon to the bone, and is often a day surgery procedure.
