Treatment for Prostatic Hyperplasia

Andrew Haller

When I became acutely poorly in September 2014, I was referred to Paul Rajjayabun at Spire South Bank Hospital who diagnosed Prostatic Hyperplasia.

I was worried at first – given the nature of the problem – but Paul was very calm and reassuring and explained the various options well. We decided that a TURP was the best procedure to undertake and the operation was conducted in late October 2014.

I was nervous, though resolute, but found the whole process very easy, from the moment of being welcomed to the. I was kept informed and involved at all stages and relaxed into the care provided and it was all over very quickly. Immediate recovery was probably best described as intense, but the nurses and attendants were all very compassionate which helped put me at my ease.

I was in hospital for a few days before being allowed home, during which time Paul came to see me and explained what he had done. A follow up appointment a few months later gave me the all clear; and now, as I approach the anniversary, I am completely cured and living life normally. All surgical procedures have risks and consequences – but I feel very lucky that mine are so few and so limited. This is in no small part to Paul and the team at Spire Soutn Bank Hospital, whose care and approach I recommend without reservation. Thank you.
