Mr Salman is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon with special interest in Retinal Diseases (age related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular occlusions) the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and Spire Eye Centre, South Bank Hospital, Worcester. Prior to that he was a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the Birmingham & Midland Eye Centre and Sandwell & West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust.
He was comprehensively trained in West Midlands Higher Surgical rotation in Ophthalmology between 2002 and 2007. Subsequently he has completed fellowships in Medical Retina and Inflammatory Eye Disease.
He is a vastly experienced surgeon having performed more than 7000 phacoemulsification cataract surgery procedures. He performs routine and complex cataract surgery under topical anaesthesia (without injection) with special interest in cataract surgery in diabetic patients.
He performs intravitreal injections and Argon laser procedures.
He has held several positions of responsibility such as Lead Consultant for Eye Accident & Emergency & Community Ophthalmology, Royal College of Ophthalmology Tutor for Ophthalmology trainees, Educational Supervisor for Foundation Year Doctors and served on the “Drugs & Therapeutic committee at the Birmingham & Midland Eye Centre.
He is currently secretary of the Midlands Ophthalmological Society and Senior Academy tutor for medical students of University of Birmingham.
He was previously course organiser for the prestigious “Oculus Course” which prepares trainees for fellowship exams. He has organised several other regional educational meetings, grand rounds and symposia in the West midlands. He was instrumental in teaching and training ‘Nurse Practitioners” for AMD clinics & intravitreal injections at Worcester. This included organising “Wet Lab sessions” as well as hands on teaching in clinics / theatre.
He has been “Principal Investigator” for several research clinical trials including COMRADE B & C, LUMINOUS and INJECTS and is the audit / research lead for his department.
He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Royal College of Ophthalmologists London and holds Clinical Excellence Awards with the NHS.
