Biral Patel is a Consultant Urological & Robotic Surgeon in Gloucestershire. Whilst he is highly experienced in general urology, his special interests include the management of urological cancers (prostate, bladder, kidney, testicular and penile cancer), major open pelvic and robotic surgery. He completed his undergraduate medical degree at the University of Bristol. This was followed by basic surgical training in the Bristol area including six months working as a Lecturer in Clinical Anatomy at the University. He then undertook a two and a half year period in formal research leading to the award of an MD from the University of Bristol. His research interest was in the Epidemiology of Prostate Cancer and his work was supported by both the Department of Health and the Prostate Cancer Charity, with over £350,000 worth of grants. He then spent 6 years in Higher Surgical Training in Urology, having trained all over the Southwest and finishing in Bristol. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
Mr Patel was appointed as a Consultant Urological Surgeon in Gloucestershire in August 2007. He is currently the Clinical Lead for Urology within Gloucestershire and also plays a major role in the training of future Urologists having recently been appointed as the Training Programme Director for Urology in the Southwest.
