Worcester MP Robin Walker met nurses, surgeons and staff at Spire South Bank Hospital when he was taken on a tour of the Bath Road building.
He was shown around by Hospital Director, Simon Milner and Head of Clinical Services, Julie Wild – also known as Matron – who introduced him to staff in various departments, including oncology and endoscopy as well as visiting the imaging unit and the Spire Eye Centre.
Mr Walker was told how, as well as treating private patients – both insured and self-funding – the hospital also catered for a large number of NHS patients.
He said: “Although this is a relatively small hospital it has some of the most modern equipment around today. It is a tremendous facility and really does provide first class health care for the people of Worcestershire.
“It is also a great example of private healthcare and the NHS working together to meet the medical needs of the people in the region. It is a great asset to the city and the region as a whole.”
Hospital Director Simon Milner said: “It was a real pleasure to show Robin the facilities we already have at Spire South Bank and to discuss future developments such as plans for a new and bigger MRI scanner.
“He was very knowledgeable about healthcare in the region - both NHS and private - and was genuinely interested in meeting members of our medical team and discussing issues with them.”
