Why travel for consultant care when it is now available at your local GP surgery?
Patients in and around Droitwich Spa will now benefit from easy access to specialist consultant care at their local GP practice. As the first of its kind in the West Midlands, Spire Droitwich Clinic today opens its doors to patients and offers one-stop consultation and diagnosis for a range of conditions from hip and knee pain to gallstones and hernia.
As a collaboration between Spire South Bank Hospital and the Droitwich Medical Centre, patients will have free access to a team of specialist Consultants with on-site diagnostic facilities. General Practitioners operating from Salters and The Spa medical practices that are housed within the Droitwich Medical Centre can now offer their patients the added convenience of going upstairs for consultation and x-ray, while the service is widely available to all through the NHS ‘choose and book’ scheme.
Partner at The Spa Medical Practice, Dr Susanna Panton, believes that this collaboration will help speed diagnosis and treatment for her patients: “Having Consultants and General Practitioners on the same site will facilitate better communication and care of our patients. The ease and convenience of being able to have an initial consultation and follow-up appointments at the same site will be very attractive to members of our local community.”
59 year-old Mr Roger Jones from Droitwich Spa was one of the first patients to benefit from prompt referral. Having visited his GP at Salters medical practice about an ongoing hip complaint, Mr Jones was sent for treatment at Spire Droitwich Clinic and is subsequently booked for surgery at Spire South Bank Hospital in the New Year.
Mr Jones comments: “Having been treated by Mr Aslam at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital some two years ago, it was great to discover that I could now see him in the same building as my local GP. As my hip makes it difficult for me to walk, let alone drive, it was so convenient to pop upstairs, without having to incur travel costs or pay a fortune in parking fees. The ability to have on-site x-rays and discuss the results in the same appointment was simply amazing. I am really looking forward to having the operation so that I can get back on my feet again for the New Year.”
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Spire Droitwich Clinic, Mr Nadim Aslam, comments: “It is really nice to be able to offer a local service to patients such as Mr Jones. The Spire Droitwich Clinic is unique as it allows us to have a closer working relationship with the GPs with whom we can freely discuss any patient queries and share case notes. This improves the quality of care that we provide to Droitwich patients. It also provides patients with more freedom of choice, as it is freely available to all through the ‘choose and book’ scheme.”
