Mr Philip Kaloo is a Consultant Gynaecologist who specialises in the investigation and treatment of menstrual problems, pelvic pain and endometriosis and runs the specific Menstrual Disorders Clinic at the Spire South Bank Hospital. He uses laparoscopic or ‘key-hole’ surgery over open abdominal surgical techniques wherever possible. A few of the significant benefits of ‘key-hole’ surgery are less pain, earlier discharge home and a quicker recovery for example 92%* of patients undergoing laparoscopic hysterectomy being able to be discharged home within 48 hours.Commonly undertaken procedures include:• Endometrial ablation• Pelvic ultrasound• Laparoscopic total or sub-total (leaving the cervix) hysterectomy • Laparoscopy (diagnostic)• Laparoscopic excision of endometriosis• Vaginal hysterectomy and pelvic floor repairIn his NHS role he is lead clinician for the menstrual disorders clinic, the endometriosis/pelvic pain clinic and the post-menopausal bleeding clinic. Having trained at University College Hospital Medical School, London, he completed postgraduate training in Bristol, Cheltenham, Bath, Southampton and Winchester. An additional four years was spent in clinical work and research into endometriosis and laparoscopic surgery at the University of Sydney, Australia and King Edward Memorial Hospital for Women in Perth, Australia.
