Mr Michael Smith trained at St. Mary's in London, with subsequent posts in Gloucester, Windsor, Oxford, Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital in London, Warwick and Newcastle -upon-Tyne. Mr Smith was appointed ENT consultant in 1990 and has been based in Hereford and Worcester since 1998, with outlying clinics in mid-Wales.
Mr Smith has extensive experience in all areas of ENT, including several years in a mission hospital in Nepal, setting up a regional ENT source and national training programmes. He has a particular sub-specialty interest in ear disease, including paediatric and adult problems such as deafness, balance disorders and tinnitus. Mr Smith has very extensive experience in middle ear micro-surgery, including reconstructive surgery for hearing. Mr Smith is a core member of training group for West Midlands in temporal bone surgery. He is also the main surgeon for stapes procedures in three counties.
Mr Smith holds clinics most weeks and operates regularly at Spire South Bank Hospital. There are facilities for a wide variety of hearing tests, balance tests, scanning, endoscopy and video assessment is available on site or can be accessed readily.
