    Dr Bertram qualified from the University of Oxford (pre-clinical) and University of Cambridge (clinical) medical schools. After gaining MRCP she entered Dermatology at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London.

    Dr Bertram returned to the Oxford Radcliffe Hospital for her Specialist Registrar training and was subsequently awarded an ICRF (now Cancer Research UK) Clinical Research Fellowship (1999-2007) to study naevi and melanoma in Leeds.
