Professional profile:
Mike is a busy consultant gastroenterologist at Southampton General doing a mix of ward work, out-patients and internal telescopic examinations including both gastroscopies and colonoscopies. He looks after all sorts of patients with gastrointestinal problems but have a paticular interest in patients with colitis or Crohns disease, and patients whose problems have led them to difficulties in their maintaining good nutritional health.

Mike leads the hospital nutrition team and has been Clinical Lead for Gastroenterology since 2007. He is considered a national leader in nutritional aspects of patient care and chaired the NICE panel that developed the nutritional care guidelines for the NHS.
Personal profile:
In addition to his medical career, Mike Stroud is well known for his expeditions to far flung places often in the company of Sir Ranulph Fiennes. He and Sir Ranulph were the first to cross Antartica on foot and unsupported and they were also the first men to run 7 marathons on 7 continents in 7 days. Mike has been awarded the OBE for human endurance and services to charity (for which he raised £millions) and the Polar medal for services to Artic and Antartic exploration. He has appeared in many TV and radio broadcasts on endurance, exercise and health and in particular was the doctor and endurance expert in the 3 BBC SAS Are You Tough Enough series and the presenter in the BBC series "The Challenge".
