Spire Southampton Hospital is delighted to announce the opening of a pioneering new Sexual Wellness Clinic on its premises.
We are now offering an innovative form of sex therapy – Psychosexual Somatics® Therapy (PST) – to all patients. This is the first sexual wellness clinic in the UK.
Anteros Training Limited is the UK company providing this sex therapy and training. PST is an integrated body-mind therapeutic approach for addressing sex and intimacy issues.
Unlike conventional sex therapy which focuses solely on the psychological and emotional aspects of treatment, what makes PST unique is its inclusion of working with the body and physical tensions related to intimacy issues as well as the underlying emotional issues.
Incorporating both mind and body into its treatment makes PST ideally suited for working in a hospital setting.
Mike Lousada, the chair of Anteros, says: “There is nothing like this in the UK. This will put Spire in a leading position regarding its delivery of sex therapy. We are very excited to be supporting Spire in this forward-looking venture. At Anteros, we believe this type of approach is the future of sex therapy.”
Jeremy Latham, the hip surgeon at Spire who first identified this potential for his patients, says: “As a hip surgeon I'm aware of the impact that osteoarthritis has on every aspect of my patients' lives. Many of them find it difficult to talk about how it affects their sex life and they worry about damaging their new hip. This new clinic will help my patients to make the most of their new hips and restore them to normal as quickly as possible.”
As a promotional offer, the clinic is offering free assessment sessions to patients to help advise them on their intimacy issues.
The clinic opening hours are currently: 11-5pm Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays.
Free initial consultations are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
