Background Information
Professional profile:

Anish Amin graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 1999. He completed his surgical training in Edinburgh and spent two further years in Melbourne specialising in knee surgery, foot and ankle surgery and joint replacement. His private practice mirrors a busy NHS practice based at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. He runs weekly specialist clinics dedicated to the treatment of knee, foot and ankle problems and performs approximately 450 operations each year. He is also a consultant member of the internationally renowned orthopaedic trauma unit at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

Anish has a special interest in joint preservation surgery for osteoarthritis and cartilage injuries of the knee and ankle. Joint preservation surgery is aimed at avoiding or delaying the need for joint replacement or fusion. It involves procedures such as arthroscopy (keyhole surgery), cartilage regeneration procedures (stem-cell based treatments) or osteotomy (joint realignment surgery). Anish is also fellowship trained in knee replacement surgery and minimally invasive foot & ankle surgery, and regularly performs these procedures.

Anish was awarded a PhD by the University of Edinburgh in 2011 for his work on cartilage. He was appointed as a National Research Scotland (NRS) fellow by the Chief Scientist’s Office in 2015 to lead research within NHS Lothian in collaboration with the University of Edinburgh. He has contributed widely to the medical literature with a number of published papers. He teaches on national and international courses. He supervises and trains orthopaedic surgical trainees at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. He is an invited reviewer for leading journals in orthopaedic surgery including the Bone and Joint Journal (BJJ) and Osteoarthritis and Cartilage (OAC). He has acted as a specialist advisor for the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).

Personal profile:

Anish lives in Edinburgh with his wife Alison and two young children. When not spending time with his family, he enjoys watching and playing cricket.
