Mr Stephen Brearley has a broad-based general surgical practice both at Spire Roding Hospital, Essex and Whipps Cross University Hospital, East London, his NHS base. This includes abdominal procedures such as laparoscopic cholecystectomy and hernias, as well as a substantial amount of vascular surgery (varicose veins, arterial bypasses and aneurysms). He regularly undertakes thoracoscopic sympathectomies for excessive sweating of the hands and arm pits (hyperhidrosis). He has an interest in paediatric surgery, having trained in this field at the Birmingham Children's Hospital. He is a firm believer in outlining all of the treatment options to the patient, and involving patients in decision making about their care.
