Miss Shanley qualified as a Dietitian in 2004 and since then have benefitted from wealth of NHS experience across both acute and community settings. Her previous dietetic experience includes weight reduction, healthy eating, cholesterol lowering and diabetes as well as seeing people at home who are enterally fed via nasogastric tubes or PEGs.
For the last 6 years Miss Shanley has been the specialist Nutrition support and Gastroenterology Dietitian at King George Hospital. Here she provide a specialist inpatient service to patients with gastrointestinal disorders, including IBD, Liver disease, Coeliac disease and functional gut disorders with a range of symptoms. Miss Shanley is trained in providing the Low FODMAP diet for these disorders. She will advise patients on diet following Bowel surgery, and stoma formation, and have conducted talks to a local Bowel cancer support group.
The other part of Miss Shanley's NHS role is to provide complex nutrition support to patients’ pre and post-surgery including patients on the intensive care unit.
