Shape of Caring Review held at Spire Roding Hospital

Health Education England organised one of a series of nationwide focus visits aimed at shaping future education and training for the nursing and healthcare assistant workforce.

The Shape of Caring Review publishes its recommendations in February 2015, and aims to ensure that nurses and care staff receive consistently high quality education and training so they can meet the needs of the population as care patterns and the NHS change over the next 15 years.

The session held at Spire Roding Hospital is one of many formal engagement exercises for the review which is being led by Lord Willis of Knaresborough and co-chaired by Professor Lisa Bayliss-Pratt, Director of Nursing, Health Education England, and Jackie Smith, Chief Executive Officer, Nursing and Midwifery Council.

Head of Clinical Services at Spire Roding Hospital, Matt Calver, said: “It was a very proud moment to welcome Lord Willis to our hospital and give our clinical staff the opportunity to discuss the education and training available to our workforce.”

Lord Willis was taken on a tour of the Spire Roding Hospital by Matt Calver and Spire Healthcare Chief Nursing Officer, Sue Holliday and also had the opportunity to speak to staff on wards, out-patients, theatres and physiotherapy within the hospital.

Chief Nursing Officer for Spire Healthcare, Sue Holliday, said “I am delighted we were able to welcome Lord Willis to Spire Roding Hospital and be involved in the ‘Shape of Caring’ review which will make recommendations for the reform of nursing education and training in England. It allowed the hospital to showcase how we deliver high quality care to our patients, including working to ensure our staff have the right skills, values and behaviours to meet their needs.”
