Read advice from Spire Roding Hospital cosmetic surgery consultant Mr Manu Sood:
The decision to undergo cosmetic surgery is always a difficult one but it is even more daunting if you have never had a cosmetic procedure done before.
There are many decisions to be made - the right surgeon; the right hospital; the right procedure. There are many doubts that will enter your mind – Am I doing the right thing? Will I get the result that I expect? What if there is a problem or complication after surgery?
It is very important to ensure that you choose the surgeon and the hospital very carefully. Your surgeon must not only be technically competent at carrying out a procedure but also must be somebody to whom you can talk and who is prepared to listen to your perception of the problem and your expectations.
Your surgeon should be prepared to work to offer you bespoke solution and not an operation which is ‘one size fits all’. Your surgeon should be honest with you and prepared to tell you not to have an operation if your medical history or the medications that you are on may make it risky. In addition, if your expectations from the operation are unlikely to be fulfilled, your surgeon should counsel you and offer you alternatives or tell you not have the surgery. The choice of an empathetic surgeon with whom you have rapport is extremely important in your journey through cosmetic surgery.
