Martin Holt started the shoulder & elbow service at University Hospitals South Manchester on his appointment as Consultant in 1997 after a two year Upper Limb Fellowship in Liverpool and a Charnley Shoulder Fellowship in New York.
Mr Holt specialises in arthroscopic shoulder and elbow surgery and manages complex referrals from other shoulder / elbow surgeons. As a recognised authority he successfully treats the shoulder and elbow problems of Olympic and International sportsmen and women and regularly treats aspiring players of all age groups.
Since 1995, Mr Holt has been a lecturer and demonstrator on National and International shoulder and elbow arthroplasty and arthroscopic courses in the UK, Europe and the Middle East. He is a Council member of the British Elbow and Shoulder Society (BESS) and Teaching Faculty Chairman for the Master Techniques in Arthroscopic Shoulder Surgery and Sheffield Shoulder Arthroplasty course. Mr Holt's research interests and publications are on Shoulder Arthroscopy and Arthroplasty.
Mr Holt is the author and series editor of the Guide for Orthopaedic Surgeons and Therapists (G.O.S.T) which is available on the internet. A ten year review of his private practice procedures has shown that rotator cuff tears, frozen shoulders, impingement and instabilities inclusive of complex multidirectional can be successfully treated by arthroscopic (keyhole) operations.
