A keen canal cruiser is feeling fit again following a successful hernia operation at Spire Regency Hospital in Macclesfield.
Martin Killilea treats the refurbishment of the two boats he keeps at Bollington Marina in Cheshire as a hobby and investment project, but had previously been held back from heavy lifting and manual work due to his hernia complaint.
Now he is back working on his boats following a successful operation at Spire Regency Hospital.
Mr Killilea said: “Working on the projects is building up something of a retirement fund for me.
“But it’s also about having a hobby I enjoy, and it gives me a reason to get up in the morning. I’m feeling great after the operation, and really pleased to be back to work.”
Mr Killilea, who was referred to the hospital by his GP, praised the treatment and care he received at Spire Regency.
“It was like being in a hotel not a hospital,” the 69-year-old said.
“The attention to detail was fantastic from beginning to end. I had absolute confidence in the staff who looked after me and Mr Quayle, the surgeon who carried out the procedure, explained every detail both before and after the operation which I found very reassuring.
“Everything about Spire Regency really impressed me – the process was clear, quick and very comfortable.
“I cannot praise them enough.”
