We are able to offer a variety of options for facelifts at the Spire Regency Hospital in Cheshire including a full facelift, mini facelift (S-Lift) and SMAS face lift.
As we age, the soft tissue in our face loses its elasticity causing lines around the mouth to deepen, jowls to develop and a fullness under the chin to appear. A face lift will raise the facial soft tissue and remove excess tissue to restore a more youthful appearance.

Mini face lifts (S-lift)
If you have tried non-surgical facial treatments such as Botox® and fillers and now would like to go further but not sure about undergoing a full face lift, then a mini face lift or S lift (short scar face lift) may be for you.
The mini face lift consists of smaller incisions in the hair line and ear skin creases and requires only 1 overnight stay. The scars are much shorter and incisions are not as deep in to the muscle tissue, this leads to a much quicker recovery time less bruising and swelling and therefore less trauma for the patient.
SMAS face lift (Submuscular aponeurotic system)
Whereas the mini face lift (S-lift) is more suited for younger patients (typically in their forties), with the beginning of 'jowls', but still with firm skin and a good neck, the SMAS face lift is more suitable for older patients who want to eradicate loose skin & wrinkles, tighten neck and jaw line & rejuvenate the face.
The SMAS procedure is classed as a full face lift and not just tightening of skin. Incisions are made in front of and behind the ears, hidden in the hairline in your natural creases. When the SMAS layer is tightened, the excess skin is redraped and remoulded as the SMAS lift also involves tightening of the muscle layer underneath the skin layer. Generally this is seen by plastic surgeons to offer an improved longer term result as opposed to the S lift. However as everyone's skin and requirements are different, it is essential you have a personal consultation with an experienced surgeon, who will consider your individual needs and discuss the realistic expectations of facial cosmetic surgery.
Miss Vivien Lees regularly performs the SMAS face lift and is a trainer and examiner to senior trainee plastic surgeons.
