Private varicose vein treatment and surgery in Portsmouth

It's not only the cosmetic appearance of varicose veins that causes concern, they can often become very uncomfortable causing aching, itchiness and pain. Many women as well as men are affected by variose veins, in fact up to three in ten people willl suffer from them during their lives.

What is the best treatment for me?

At your first consultant appointment, your legs will be fully assessed including a full ultrasound scan. The Ultrasound scan identifies how the individual veins in your legs are functioning. Your consultant will advise and discuss with you which treatment or combination of techniques is most suited to you, for the best possible results.

We're here to help, so if you require any further information, have a question about varicose vein treatments or would like to make an appointment to see one of our consultants, please either call us on 02392 456172 or email

At Spire Portsmouth Hospital we are able to offer a variety of methods to treat varicose veins, each has different advantages.

Varicose Vein treatments offered by Spire Portsmouth Hospital

  • Minimally Invasive Surgery - uses various methods under general anaesthetic to tye off the varicose vein
  • Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT™) - non-surgical treatment. A laser probe is passed into the vein whcih then seals it as it is removed
  • Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerotherapy - non-surgical treatment performed in out-patients under local anaesthetic. Foam is injected directly into the affected vein to seal it.
  • Venaseal™ Adhesive - non-surgical treatment performed in out-patients under local anaesthetic. Venaseal™ is injected directly into the affected vein to seal it.
