Professor Pradeep Bhandari is a general Gastroenterologist with expertise in advanced endoscopic procedures, screening and treatment of gastrointestinal cancers. He has a special interest in diseases of stomach and intestines. He commonly accepts referrals for patients needing endoscopy or presenting with gastrointestinal symptoms like: dyspepsia, change in bowel habit, rectal bleeding, weight loss inflammatory bowel diseases, irritable bowel disease and abnormal Liver function tests.

Pradeep trained in Wessex region and worked at various hospitals in the region including, Poole, Bournemouth, Southampton and Winchester. He undertook a period of comprehensive research at Southampton university hospital investigating the link between chronic inflammation and development of cancers in gastrointestinal tract. He is still very actively involved in various research projects and is a member of the panel of expert European Gastroentrologists reviewing endoscopy related research submitted to European society of Gastroenterology.

In 2004, Professor Bhandari received a visiting fellowship to work at one of the worlds leading endoscopy unit at National Cancer Centre in Tokyo, Japan. He worked with pioneers of new endoscopic techniques involved in diagnosis and endoscopic treatment of cancers. Based on his experience and skills acquired in Japan he has significantly influenced the diagnosis, screening, surveillance and treatment of gastrointestinal cancers in this region. He regularly receives referrals from other regional hospitals for Chromoendoscopy and Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (Endoscopic removal of cancers without the need for radical surgery).

In 2013, Professor Bhandari has received two prestigious awards; the Hopkins Endoscopy Award for technical innovation in the field of endoscopy, by the British Society of Gastroenterology and the Crystal Award for research in early cancer diagnosis, by the American Gastroenterology Association.  

Personal profile:
Pradeep loves playing cricket, badminton and hockey. He is also into cooking mixing eastern spices in western cooking and vice versa.

Vinegar is being used to help detect potential cancer cells. Professor Bhandari said the vinegar acted as a dye, and this allows precancerous cells to be spotted and simply scraped away.
